Glad you found it interesting Archie. I agree - I for one will not be giving Google all my personal data in a hurry; they know quite enough about me already. But I suspect many end users aren't really aware of the implications of what they are doing - how many people even spot the check box to ask Google not to track your search history in your Google account, for example? It's not that prominent so I think most people would probably not notice it. I'd have been interested to know what percentage of users search while logged in, but I guess we can pretty much figure it out from the percentage of searches that show up in Analytics as 'not provided'. Hang on a minute, that's an idea for another blog post!

Great post Helen, some very interesting things happening with Google, but I think G will need to offer users a lot more if they really want people to integrate "their whole bubble" with their "intelligent personal services" (Particularly security wise). Not sure when the world skipped to generation "C" but its very well observed. Cheers

Thanks Archie, glad you enjoyed it! I agree, there are of course many more searches for the various towns and villages within Telford, which aren't counted in this research - no easy way round that though unfortunately.

An innovative and interesting piece of local research. I thought results might be skewed by the independence of "old Telford" villages, or the notoriety of areas like Ironbridge, Newport and Wellington. I think this keyword research is a good reflection of the local search ecosystem and a good read too.

Hi Caroline, thanks for your recommendation! Has anyone else got any favourite plugins they'd like to share?

I'm afraid I can't really give a straight answer to the question about the number of plugins as it depends on their size and complexity. You could have 30 little Hello Dolly-like plug-ins and they wouldn’t bog your site down as much as 10 or so more sophisticated plug-ins!

Hi Helen - a favourite Plug-in of mine is Wordpress SEO by Yoast, because you have got it set up (that needs a bit of care) the Plug-in reminds you if you've forgotten to place a keyword in say the title.
Whilst I know that every site is different, what would be really helpful is to have an idea of how many plugins are too many. 10,20, 30?

Great post Helen! If you're selling products Google Product Search is a must. Also, Bing Shopping (www.bing.com/shopping) and TheFind (www.thefind.com) are two additional free comparison shopping engines merchants can list their products on.
