WiRE is a national business support network which promotes, supports and helps in the development of rural businesswomen. Based at Harper Adams University in Shropshire, WiRE offers a package of practical business support which includes access to the 50 WiRE networks across the UK, where women in business share expertise and knowledge, build new skills, help boost confidence and support each other to build better businesses.
Since its inception in 1998, WiRE has grown from an academic research project to a national membership organisation, widely recognised as a dynamic and positive force within the economy of rural areas, and as the voice of rural women’s enterprise in the UK.
The WiRE website had not been updated for several years and was starting to look out of date. WiRE has become a national business support network and the old site did not accurately portray the organisation. Furthermore, the old site wasn’t responsive which meant when it was viewed on mobile and tablet devices, visitors found it difficult to use.
The old site had also become very large, which led to it becoming complex to navigate. This meant members were struggling to find their way around the site, and staff found it hard to manage. The rebuild needed to cut down on the number of pages, but also attempt to keep the majority of the high- traffic content for search engine optimisation, all the while ensuring that the new site was more user friendly and easier to manage. The new site needed a focus on SEO to help it gain more traffic overall.
WiRE allows networks to host events around the country, so we were asked to create an easy to use, online booking system.
